The Turtle Storm is coming – again
AND WE NEED TO SAVE THEM ALL
Out of the 7 species of Sea Turtles, 3 are “endangered” or “critically endangered“, and 3 are classified as “vulnerable“. Their numbers are dwindling every year, due to poaching, diseases and pollution. It is therefore essential that every effort is made to ensure the future survival of our shelly friends.
PAAZAB-BCRE is proud to be part of the rehabilitation and release of marine turtles around South Africa. We work closely with Bayworld in Port Elizabeth, a rehab center for marine species specialized in marine turtles. In order to follow their journey accross the ocean after their release, adult turtles are fitted with a GPS or acoustic tracker. It allows scientists to gather information about their habits and their survival. This data is critical to better understand the species we want to protect and their environment.
