REAL TIME CONSERVATION IN ACTION
Most vulture species are endangered. The threats are multiple : poisoning, power lines, poaching, reduced wild areas and available carcasses as their food source…
To ensure their survival, we have to know what they require. This step will help in determining the best conservation actions required to help the vultures’ populations in the wild.
However, following vultures is not an easy task! This is one of the reasons why the Bearded Vulture Recovery Programme installed a camera in a Bearded Vulture nest in the high mountains.
The live nest camera – Nestflix – allows us to get a fantastic insight into the daily life and the natural raising of a Bearded Vulture chick, expanding our knowledge tremendously and in return giving us the opportunity to care for the captive population (ex-situ) and the wild population (in-situ) “the right way” by mimicking what happens in the wild and giving the animals what they require.
